Workshop on Visual Media and Communication was conducted by Don Bosco International Media Academy (DBIMA), Paris

05-September-2024

We, the Advertising, Marketing, and Consumer Analytics batch at Xavier’s Institute of Communications, would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Don Bosco International Media Academy, Paris, for conducting an insightful workshop on filmmaking. This four-day workshop not only expanded our knowledge but also sharpened our skills in ad filmmaking.

The first day we were introduced to the nuances of pre-production, production, and post-production phases. Over the next three days, we had hands-on experience, working in professional units to conceptualise and then execute our own ad film projects. The final day was dedicated to editing, after which we presented our films to the entire XIC community, showcasing our creative narratives and techniques on the big screen.

We extend our sincere thanks to DBIMA for providing us with such a valuable and enriching learning experience!

As part of the partnership between Don Bosco International Media Academy (DBIMA), Paris and XIC Mumbai, XIC students participated in a collaborative workshop that blended theory with practical experience. This workshop brought together students from various departments, such as Film and Television, Journalism, and Event Planning, to create a short film.

We had the opportunity to not only edit the film but also play a key role in its development. Despite facing some challenges, like having to change the concept on the first day, we managed to shoot and edit the entire film in just two days. The final product was a satire about women’s empowerment, highlighting how society controls what women wear and objectifies them no matter their choice. The film used humor and irony to address this serious issue, encouraging the audience to think about their own biases.

Collaboration between the different departments was crucial for the success of the project. The Journalism students helped shape the story into a strong and meaningful message, while the Event Planning students handled the logistics, ensuring the production ran smoothly. This allowed the creative teams to focus fully on making the film.

As Film and Television students, we learned a lot from this experience, particularly about editing and developing a project under tight deadlines. Guided by Payam and Maeva, faculty members from DBIMA Paris, we were able to overcome obstacles and create a polished final product. Their support during the workshop from 2nd to 4th September, was invaluable in helping us achieve our goal.

Workshops like this, made possible by the partnership between DBIMA and Xavier's Institute of Communications, give students a chance to work together across different fields and apply what they’ve learned in real-world situations. At XIC, we are encouraged to develop our skills through hands-on projects, and this film was a great example of how collaboration and creativity can lead to impactful storytelling.
