FIELD TRIP

FT 2016-17

ST. XAVIER’S VILLA, KHANDALA

A study tour to St. Xavier’s Villa, Khandala & FTII, Pune was scheduled from 12th to 14th September 2016 for FT students. Two faculty members and two staff members accompanied them.

The first session was on landscape and night photography conducted by Dean Dr. Mistry was followed by an outdoor lighting session on cinematography with Course Head, Mr. Satish Bhatia. The assignment post these sessions was to make a short film using the skills picked up earlier in the day. This was the challenging part as it was not mentored! It was also very exciting walking through the market area and sunset point trying to get the best shots of mist, old villa, foliage, ravine, people, keeping in mind the aspect of environment.

The next day saw us trekking through rolling green hills and valleys in our quest for the best short film. Post lunch session included screening of films and photographs.

The evening session was free and everyone made a fun trip to the Lonavala. Being the last night, the students and faculty entertained each other. The faculty and staff put up a skit, and the students, a dance performance and all sang together into the night.

The last day of the trip was a visit to FTII, Pune where the students went through all the departments of the institute and saw the indoor and outdoor places that have inspired film maestros over the years! The students got extremely excited seeing the vault, which holds film reels from 1962 onwards, of FTII students, including those of their faculty. Some students fished out a film reel of Ritwik Ghatak when he was the faculty at FTII and had made the film- ‘Fear’.

After a long and satisfying journey, the students returned to Mumbai with new knowledge to be now tested, bags full of memories and hearts full of happiness.

A word of THANKS to the Course-Head, Dean and other faculty who accompanied and guided these film-makers in the making ! !
